" We had a wonderful two-week trip in Amdo, hosted by Tibetan Caravan, which was a varied mix of trekking and cultural experiences. We began and ended our trip in Xining, traveling to Rebkong, Labrang, Taktsang Lhamo, and Nyenpo Yurtse.
Our guides were real experts on Amdo: its people, attractions, nature, religion, culture, and history. We were made to feel very welcome and were very well looked after. The tour was capably organized yet flexible to our needs. When planning the itinerary, Pema was able to make the best use of our time while seeking to understand what we would like to get out of our trip. From the moment we were met at the airport, we felt immediately relaxed and at ease, confident that the trip would run smoothly.
The guides were keen to allow us the opportunity to experience hidden gems and out-of-the-way places and as a result, we got a good understanding of the way of life of Tibetan people. The tour felt very personalized and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with our hosts Pema and Tsering. They are a lot of fun and we shared lots of laughs. I’m sure we’ll stay in touch for years to come!
Amdo has a lot to offer the visitor – much more than we could see in our short time – and I would not hesitate in recommending Tibetan Caravan to anyone interested in seeing this fascinating and undiscovered part of Tibet.

"I traveled with Tibetan Caravan in June/July 2016. Our trip combined visiting the Gompas in Rebkong, Labrang, and Taktsang Lamho, with a trek between Rebkong and Labrang, and another trek in Nyenpo Yurtse.
I can’t recommend Tibetan Caravan highly enough. They provided a quick response to our initial inquiry, were very attentive to putting together a trip that suited exactly what we wanted (plus making lovely suggestions for additional things to throw in), and were really good at keeping in touch and keeping us informed as we got closer to our departure time.
We were fortunate to be guided by Pema and Tsering. Both have good English and are extremely knowledgeable about the local area, history, and Tibetan customs. While maintaining high professional standards at all times, they were also great fun to be with and we had lots of laughs together on the trip. We had hand-made noodles while on the trek, and were particularly impressed by Pema’s patience and safe driving on some pretty hairy roads!
They also had really good relationships with others that we came across on the trip – monks in Gompas, people in the hotels and restaurants, and Drokpa herders in the trekking areas. Everywhere we went it felt like there were friends welcoming us."

We did trekking from Rebgong to Labrang with Tibetan Caravan and Pema was our guide. During the trekking, we visited Tibetan villages as well as nomad settlements. Pema helped us to interact with local people and we could learn about their culture and daily life firsthand. This was a unique and really amazing experience we will never forget. We had lots of fun and laughs during the trip. We felt really welcomed and everyone we met was very friendly.
We recommend Tibetan Caravan and Pema to everyone who is interested in getting to know the authentic Tibetan culture and customs, away from crowds. This was one of the best trips that we have ever done.
